Faculty Forum: Developing a Center for Teaching Excellence
Letter of Invitation to All University of Houston Faculty and Librarians
Dear Colleagues:
On behalf of the Faculty Senate, we would like to invite you to participate in a Faculty Forum on the topic of “Developing a Center for Teaching Excellence.”
This forum, which is one of a series of forums hosted by the UH Faculty Senate to promote better, more inclusive discussions of teaching and learning on campus, will include a catered lunch for participants. Please reserve your calendar and register to attend the event:
Faculty Forum: Developing a Center for Teaching Excellence
12:00 – 2:00 pm, Friday, November 6, 2009
Houston Room, University Center
RSVP online by November 2nd
This forum will have two parts. In the first segment, we will talk briefly about the past year’s efforts in the SACS QEP program to strengthen undergraduate research. Presenters will also describe what resources are available for faculty and what we envision taking place over the next few years. A brief Q&A will follow this discussion.
In the second portion, we will offer a moderated discussion of the proposed Center for Teaching Excellence. This segment will feature some brief presentations about existing models for the CTE at other schools, followed by further conversation about the possible roles to be played by a CTE here. Topics of discussion and interest identified at this forum will be followed up in a full Faculty Senate-hosted conference devoted to teaching and learning scheduled in the spring.
All UH faculty members and Librarians are invited to attend the Faculty Forum, which is co-sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Discovery Programs and Office of Educational Technology and University Outreach.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact David Mazella at dmazella@uh.edu.
